Action Figure Digest #191

$7.00

The San Diego Comic-Con was full of surprises in the way of new announcements and unique products. Gentle Giant presented 12" Star Wars figure that reproduce the original 3-3/4" Kenner figures in a “giant” size. The TRON line from Spinmasters brings a breathe of fresh air to the action figure market. They could easily make multi-scale products work within the same line because each scale has a different purpose and play value.

Mattel used the show to market a number of exclusives and to promote the Mattycollector.com website. Sideshow Collectibles did much of the same thing with higher end collectibles. Hasbro and several other companies held back some this year showing only a sampling of new products.

The San Diego Comic-Con is proving to be a valuable venue where toy companies can meet directly with their collector buyers, even some younger children who are prime toy consumers. There was some grumbling among fans that Hollywood is taking over the show, but if that keeps anyone away there are vendors and fans anxious to take their place for the event that sold out the previous October.
